It's becoming more difficult to keep up with how large Montana's cities have become, mostly because they keep growing at an impressive rate. There was a time where Montana license plate numbers would immediately let you know what county the car was from - the first number reflected the county size, in order, decades ago.

Rapid growth gets a lot of attention in Montana, but a whopping 25% of our counties have experienced drops in net migration from 2020 - 2022. Some counties saw hundreds moving out.

Sure, I'm stretching the definition of 'town' a bit but 'census designated place' doesn't have much personality. Montana is the perfect state to search for super small towns that have real charm and/or something pretty cool in their backyard.
