Wednesday morning the Bozeman area woke up to snow and the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for this storm. Snow is expected to taper off and expected to move out of the area by this afternoon.

With this storm we can expect:

  • One inch expected for the Bozeman area
  • Up to two inches possible at the pass level
  • Snow packed and slick roads
  • Reduced road conditions
  • Highs in the low-20s (lows in the teens)
  • Slippery roads
  • Low visibility
  • Difficult travel especially for mountain passes

The National Weather Service has issued the Winter Weather Advisory for portions of central, southwest, and west-central Montana until 3 p.m. The advisory includes Kings Hill Pass, Bozeman Pass, Raynolds Pass, Chief Joseph Pass, and Homestake Pass. More snow is expected again on Friday afternoon and into Saturday with lows in the teens.

This storm will be good for the snowpack in the local mountains, according to the United States Department of Agriculture, which is currently 102% to the normal yearly average in Gallatin County. Last year in February, the Bozeman area received a record 29.7 inches of snow.

The increased snowpack will aid the local ski conditions at Big Sky Ski Resort and Bridger Bowl. If you are planning on hitting the slopes be sure to check the latest conditions here.
