Snow & Slick Roads Expected for Bozeman Area
Snow is expected this afternoon and the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory. The storm is expected to drop one to two inches in the valleys and up to four inches in the mountains. The advisory is in effect until 8 a.m. Friday morning. With this storm they are calling for:
- 1 to 2 inches for the Bozeman area
- Up to 4 inches expected for upper elevations
- Reduced road conditions for the afternoon commute
- Slippery roads - Especially Friday morning
- Low visibility
- Difficult travel especially for mountain passes
The Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Meagher, Jefferson, Broadwater, Madison, and Gallatin Counties. With the snow expected to start Thursday afternoon the snow may melt initially on the roads before freezing in the overnight hours. Friday morning the roads are expected to be slick, icy, and hazardous according to the National Weather Service.
After this storm moves out of the area we can expect to return to fairly mild winter weather. We can expect to see a mix of sun and clouds return Saturday and through our weekend. Temperatures are expected to be in the low 30's and should be in the upper 30's by the middle of next week.
This storm will be good for the snow pack in the local mountains which is below normal according to the United States Department of Agriculture. Currently, Gallatin County is 79% to the normal yearly average.
