Montana’s New Colored Tabs for License Plates

The Montana Department of Justice’s Motor Vehicle Division has an announcement, we will have colored tabs to indicate the year of expiration on a motor vehicle’s registration.

Colonel Tom Butler of the Montana Highway Patrol said, “The new colored tabs will significantly assist law enforcement officers in identifying drivers who are in compliance with valid vehicle registration and those who are not. The Montana Highway Patrol would like to thank the Motor Vehicle Division for seeking law enforcement input throughout this process.”

The new tabs are now being circulated by MVD. The titling, registration and license plate issuance take place at the local County Treasurer’s Office.

MVD Administrator Sarah Garcia said, “We are committed to identifying common sense solutions that assist all Montana law enforcement in their daily operations.”
