March Madness Sweeps Over Montana As Bobcats Go To The Big Dance.
Montana State University Athletic Director Leon Costello loves to say "it's a great day to be a Bobcat" and I have to agree. In fact, I would say it's a great year to be a Bobcat because this last year has been one for the ages when it comes to Montana State University athletics.
We all had high hopes at the back in August and September, heck, let's be honest, we were just excited to be able to go back to a game after the last couple of years of living in a pandemic. We all knew the potential was there for some success as both football and basketball were trending upwards.
However, I'm not sure anyone could have predicted the run the University would go on.
There have been a few "firsts" in the last six and a half months for MSU sports, check this out:
- First time in Bobcat Stadium history that all home games were sold out
- First time since 1984 the Bobcat Football Team played in a National Championship Game
- First time in 20 years that MSU Men's Basketball win the Big Sky Conference Championship
Throw in the fact that both the Men's and Women's basketball teams won the Big Sky Tournament and are heading off to March Madness, it is indeed a great year to be a Bobcat.
Both teams play this Friday. The Lady Bobcats are a 16 seed and will play the number 1 seed Stanford. The Men's team come into the tournament as a 14 seed taking on the number 3 seed in Texas Tech down in San Deigo.
