Wildlife officials in Montana are recommending against holding a grizzly bear hunt. In 2018, the bear lost federal protection across a three-state region centered on Yellowstone National Park Fish and Wildlife.

An estimated 700 grizzly bears roam in and around the Yellowstone region of Wyoming, Montana and Idaho.

Parks Director Martha Williams commented that she wants to demonstrate the state's commitment to the grizzly bears' long-term recovery. .
