Each year different publications come out with the best places to live across the United States. This of course is a big deal to local Chambers of Commerce, businesses, and others that are looking to highlight the place they call home.

Montana certainly has some up-and-coming towns that have really gained popularity in the last few years.  Places like Bozeman and Missoula continue to grow, as well as the smaller towns around them. Plus, with certain television shows highlighting the beauty of Big Sky Country, it seems like more and more people are coming here each day.

The truth is, Montana is a popular place to live.

There are several factors that go into such a list including. First, in order to make the list, the town or city must have at least 20 thousand residents. Here's a look at the factors used to make the list:

  • Cost of living
  • Diversity
  • Economic opportunities
  • Education
  • Fun and amenities
  • Health and Safety
  • Housing market
  • Income and personal finance
  • Quality of life

Just how many Montana towns made the list? Actually, none. While that will certainly come as great news to those who aren't fond of the idea of people from other places moving here, it is a bit surprising that we didn't have at least one town on the list.

So what keep us off the list?

Well, I'm no expert, but I'm guessing the high cost of living as well as the outrageous home prices might have something to do what that. Throw in the fact that we have a workers shortage in education to healthcare and that might also be a factor.

Either way, I can't think of any place I would rather live.

Many of the included towns jump out at the casual observer as popular summer-rental spots--the Ozarks' Branson, Missouri, or Arizona's Lake Havasu--it might surprise you to dive deeper into some quality-of-life offerings beyond the beach and vacation homes. You'll likely pick up some knowledge from a wide range of Americana: one of the last remaining 1950s-style drive-ins in the Midwest; a Florida town that started as a Civil War veteran retirement area; an island boasting some of the country's top public schools and wealth-earners right in the middle of a lake between Seattle and Bellevue; and even a California town containing much more than Johnny Cash's prison blues.
