Three-time Bozeman Mayor Jeff Krauss won’t be running for mayor again, but he will be running for a seat on the city commission.

He announced his plans on the KMMS AM morning show on Tuesday.

“I won’t be running for mayor for another term. This is my last term as mayor…But I am going to run for commissioner, city commissioner,” Krauss told KMMS AM host Chris Griffin.

The intensity of being mayor, being on the Montana University System Board of Regents and working full time “has blown me up a little bit,” Krauss said, adding that he is still excited about doing his job as mayor.

Krauss said he wants the commission to talk about diversifying the economy in Bozeman, focusing on more than just the tourism and the building industries.

The future of Bozeman is bright and people are still moving here, he said.

“I think I still have a voice in that conversation that represents the commonsense people of Bozeman,” Krauss said Tuesday morning.

What can he do as a commissioner that he can’t do as mayor?

“I would go home to my wife a little more often. I would spend more time with my two sons,” he said.

Krauss is the director of finance and administration for the Museum of the Rockies.
