Will Bozeman Have A White Christmas? What Are The Chances?

The countdown to Christmas is on.

We're less than two weeks away from Santa and Rudolph and all of the other reindeer coming to town. Folks are making lists and checking them twice, praying that Amazon delivers before the 25th.  Soon stockings will be hung by the chimney with care, and by this time you have a pretty good knowledge if you're on the Naughty or Nice list. So that really only leaves one question.

Will Bozeman have a white Christmas?

Let's be honest, it's been a crazy weather year.  We've seen 60 plus degrees in December and very little precipitation. Skiing is at a minimum and even some resorts, including Bridger Bowl, are postponing opening because of the lack of snow.

So what can we expect here in Bozeman for Christmas?  Will there be snow on the ground?  Will we have a White Christmas?

According to the National Weather Service for it to be considered a "White Christmas" there has to be at least one inch of snow on the ground. Taking a look at their maps that are based on historical data, it seems we have an above-average chance, putting us in the 50 percent to 70 percent range.

I realize that predicting the weather is a tough job, with lots of variables and factors going into the science of it all.  Having said that, looking at the extended forecast for the area, we will certainly see snow between now and Christmas and the temperatures are going to be more seasonal than they have been.  It would seem that if you are hoping for a White Christmas, the odds look to be in your favor.
