Who Will Pick Up For Bill Cosby?
Comedian Bill Cosby, 81, may be headed to prison. Three months ago, Cosby was found guilty on three counts of aggravated indecent assault for drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand at Cosby’s home in Philadelphia.
Cosby could be facing ten years for each count although most legal experts agree he will probably have a shortened sentence if he goes to jail at all.
Pennsylvania’s Sexual Offenders Assessment Board found that Cosby is a sexually violent predator and should be classified as one.
His sexual predator status will be decided before his criminal sentencing scheduled for September 24th.
The Cosby Show
One the things Cosby was known for is his crusade for the betterment of the black family in America.
Each week viewers tuned in to watch obstetrician Dr. Cliff Huxtable, and his lawyer wife Claire, their daughters Sondra, Denise, Vanessa and Rudy, and son Theo tackle various family problems.
The show ran on NBC from September 20, 1984, until April 30, 1992.
The Cosby Show and All In The Family are the only two shows in history to be number one for five years running.
There was always a lesson to be learned in each episode about doing the right thing and good parenting. Viewers went away with a moral lesson each week.
Who Carries On From Here?
In addition to TV and a stand-up comedy routine, Cosby also lectured at colleges and universities from coast to coast about African-American’s taking it upon themselves to better their lives.
He espoused that the color of their skin was not their roadblock but instead getting a good education and taking personal responsibility for your actions was the key to success.
There aren’t many African-American’s who are teaching that same message these days. At least none as well-known as he is — or was.
Some Final Thoughts
The Cosby message will be sadly missed but we can now see that a selfish act can completely unravel a lifetime of good work.
I can’t imagine what he was thinking. Obviously, he didn’t pay enough attention to his own show.
Will someone else pick up the gauntlet and continue his fight for his people? Seems doubtful to me in today’s liberal society filled with it’s not your fault excuses.
