What Was the Most Memorable Moment of the 2012 Summer Olympics? — Sports Survey of the Day
After more than two weeks of thrilling competition, the 2012 Summer Olympics came to an end with Sunday’s closing ceremonies in London. While the United States won the most medals, the Americans didn’t provide all of the London Games’ most memorable moments.
Some fans may remember the elaborate — and sometimes confusing — opening ceremony that featured live animals in a makeshift countryside, ‘the Queen of England’ jumping out of a helicopter with James Bond (Daniel Craig) and Paul McCartney singing.
Others are likely to have been captivated by the athletic displays and record-setting performances by gold medal winners like Usain Bolt, Michael Phelps or Gabby Douglas.
NBC scrambled to capture as much of the action as possible. The network’s ratings for the Olympic Games were up 10 percent compared to the Beijing Games of 2008. It seems that regardless of what viewers remember most, they were watching the 2012 Summer Olympics.
