DNA has revolutionized police work. Attorney General Tim Fox is happy to announce that, because of a federal grant, over one thousand Montana rape kits can now be processed. They have been sitting untested just waiting to be tested.

Fox said it isn't like the movies or television where cops get DNA results in a matter of hours, in real life it takes weeks. Why would Montana have thousands of rape kits dating back as far as 10 years that have not been processed? Fox explained, if someone confesses there is no need to spend money and process the DNA evidence.

It will cost about $2 million for our state to get all the kits done and set up a system, using the latest technology, so there will be no backlog in the future.

Attorney General Fox said there have been scientific advances, but still getting DNA results in minutes is still a few years away.
