The Truth About Bozeman Residents Being Forced Out of Town
Longtime residents of Bozeman and the surrounding area are being forced out of town. Is anything being done to fix this problem?
I have a good friend that lives in Belgrade. She is a Montana native and lives in a trailer park near the airport. Recently, her landlord told her that rent is going up. The rent increase is something that my friend can't afford to pay. She's near retirement age and instead of enjoying her golden years in Montana, she's packing her belongings and moving to live with a friend in Utah.
It's truly sad that someone that was born in Montana can no longer afford to live in a place that they've called home for so many years. It breaks my heart to think about my friend's situation and I wish there was more that I could do to help.
My friend isn't the only person having to make the difficult decision to leave the Bozeman area. Last week on the Bozeman Reddit page, a resident shared their personal story about getting forced out of Bozeman.
I have lived in Montana my entire life. However, my landlord is raising our rent in a few months and I’m afraid I just can’t live here anymore. I have a degree in public service, I have a husband and a small dog. We have lived with roommates to make ends meet and still barely scraping by with the yearly rent increases. This time it’s just too much for us to stay.
The stories about and those similar have become all too common in Bozeman. Bozeman has turned into a place that caters to the wealthy. If you aren't rich, it's becoming harder and harder to survive. I work full-time and still have a really hard time getting by. Let's hope something happens soon before all of the residents that make this place so great are gone for good.
