In his first season last year as the Head Coach of the Montana State Bobcats, Brent Vigen took his team to the National Championship game.  After the season, he signed an extension to remain a part of the University for multiple years.

Fast forward to this year and Coach Vigen has the Bobcats at 8-1 and undefeated in Big Sky Conference play heading into this Saturday's game with Cal/Poly.

There's no doubt that Coach Vigen is an excellent motivator and a great coach, with a pedigree of winning.  So, is it any surprise that his name is now making the rounds as a possible candidate for a bigger school?

Adam Munsterteirger, who is with BuffStampede said the following about Vigen:

The Bobcats have won 19 of 23 games under Vigen’s direction and made it to the FCS National Championship Game in 2021, but he has never coached at the Power 5 level.

Now keep in mind, that there are several names being mentioned for the position at Colorado, including Deon Sanders, Bronco Mendenhall, and Gary Patterson.  In the world of social media, rumors can spread pretty quickly. So anything we hear should always be taken with a grain of salt.

The fact that people are talking about Coach Vigen doesn't mean a thing, other than Montana State University has a football coach that is getting results and is now getting some national recognition. As the Bobcats continue to have success, these rumors will only increase.

However, until someone with hiring or firing power makes those statements, Bobcat fans should relax.
