Get Your Pinterest Fix On the Go With Mobile App
Pinterest has decided taking over the internet is not enough and has finally gone completely mobile. This week, the social media site launched new apps for the iPad and Android platforms, and updated the already existing iPhone app. The happy result is that you can now tote around your virtual cork board in your pocket.
Created by (duh) Pinterest, Inc. the app has a simple interface and design. Once the app is installed, you sign in with your account. Or, if you have been in the backwoods renacting 17th century subsistence farming and don’t have an account, you create one.
Once you’ve signed in, you can pin links from the Web easily by using the sharing option. You can also re-pin, comment or like things on the boards you already follow, and search Pinterest for boards or subjects of interest.
Pros:
- Simple, beautiful interface design.
- The app also has the ability to pin things from your camera. Take a photo you want to share and you can pin it to one of your boards.
- Gives the option to share to Facebook and Twitter the things you pin.
- Can do almost everything the site can do (though to be fair, the site is not that complicated).
- The app is excellent on the iPad.
- It’s free.
Cons:
- It can be a little slow to load.
- When you attempt to pin or re-pin items on the Android system, if you haven’t un-checked the option to Twitter and Facebook, the app will direct you to those sites for you to share before re-pinning.
- The update for the iPhone has given the ability to see multiple pins, but it also shrinks the pictures.
- On the app’s iPhone update, it can take a little longer to browse than the original.
Conclusion
Whether or not the update for the iPhone is better or worse than the original can largely be a matter of taste. Though the mobile version is not nearly as user-friendly as the actual site, it is good to know that when you pass that dog in a Buzz Lightyear costume on the street, you can pin it to your boards–even if you don’t have an iPhone.
The Pinterest App is available to download now for both Apple and Android platforms. For more information on the app and how to download, click here for Apple and click here for Android.
