Montana Prison Compound Locked Down Over Security Issue
HELENA, Mont. (AP) — Montana State Prison officials have placed the prison's high-security compound on lockdown and canceled inmate visits for the unit this weekend because of an undisclosed security issue.
Spokeswoman Amy Barton declined to release details about the security issue Friday in the "High Side" compound because of an ongoing investigation. But she says there wasn't a riot and that all inmates and staff are safe. She says weekend visitation will go on as scheduled in other parts of the prison.
The Deer Lodge prison houses more than 1,600 inmates in three different compounds: low security, high security and max security, or locked housing.
