Manhattan Defeats Fairfield in Class B Football Championship

On Saturday, the Manhattan Tiger football team headed north to face the Fairfield Eagles in MHSA Class B Football Championship.

Last year, the Tigers faced Eureka in the Class B Championship, and their state title hopes were crushed when the team lost 20-6. This season, the Tigers had something to prove. After being on the verge on greatness last season, the team headed to Fairfield on Saturday on a mission to make a statement and prove that they deserved to be there.

In the Class B state semifinals, Manhattan defeated Glasgow 43-18. After the win, the Tigers aimed their sights on Fairfield and the state championship.

Manhattan went into Saturday's game as the top ranked Class B team in the state, according to 406mtsports.com. The Tigers were undefeated this season, winning all 11 games on their schedule. Fairfield went into Saturday's title game at 8-1.

In the state title game on Saturday, Manhattan trailed Fairfield 0-6 at the end of the first quarter. From that point on, the Tigers rallied and dominated on defense, holding the Eagles to only 6 points. The impressive performance led to a 23-6 win for the Manhattan football team, and the first football state championship title in school history.
