Helena Arson Suspect Shot And Killed
A Lewis and Clark County sheriff's deputy performing a welfare check on a man suspected of an arson fire ended up shooting and killing the man during a confrontation.
Sheriff Leo Dutton says deputies responded to a house in the east Helena Valley shortly before 6 p.m. Wednesday on a request for a welfare check. Dutton says deputies were instructed to use caution with the man, who had a warrant for his arrest on an arson charge in Musselshell County.
Dutton did not provide details about what led to the shooting.
Coroner Mickey Nelson said the man was in his 60s. He did not release his name.
