Tis the season for ice jams. There continues to be a Flood Advisory for Madison Countu until Saturday morning.

According to the National Weather Service:

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN GREAT FALLS HAS ISSUED A FLOOD ADVISORY FOR AN ICE JAM IN EASTERN MADISON COUNTY UNTIL 245 AM SATURDAY.

  • EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT REPORTED AN ICE JAM CAUSING MINOR FLOODING ALONG ODELL CREEK AT MILE POST 48.2 ALONG U.S. 287.
  • SOME LOCATIONS THAT WILL EXPERIENCE FLOODING INCLUDE - BRIDGE AT MILE POST 48.2 ON US-287 JUST SOUTHEAST OF ENNIS AND JEFFERS.
  • AN ICE JAM HAS FORMED ON THE MADISON RIVER NEAR ENNIS CAUSING WATER TO BACK UP INTO ODELL CREEK WITH MINOR FLOODING OCCURRING OVER THE SECOND BRIDGE OUTSIDE OF ENNIS AT MILE POST 48.2 ON U.S. 287.
  • USE EXTREME CAUTION IF TRAVELING IN THIS AREA AND BE PREPARED TO TAKE ALTERNATE ROUTES IF CONDITIONS WORSEN. ICE JAMS ARE COMMON THIS TIME OF YEAR AND CAN CAUSE SUDDEN RISES IN RIVERS AND STREAMS THAT LEAD TO FLOODING.
  • BE AWARE AND IF YOU SEE AN ICE JAM FORMING OR CAUSING FLOODING IN AN AREA, BE SURE TO REPORT IT TO LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT OR EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT.
