Evacuation Orders Issued for Target Range Homes Due to Flooding
Missoula County authorities have notified residents in the flooded areas of the city and county on Tuesday afternoon that they must be evacuated immediately.
Missoula County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Brenda Bassett said deputies have been notifying residents they must leave immediately.
“Residents in the Orchard home area are now on an evacuation order,” said Bassett. “The area includes all residences on Tower Street to the North of 3rd Street, Kehrwald, Channel Drive, Nancy Lou, Keck Street, and Stone Street to the North of its intersection at Flamingo Drive, and involves approximately 60 homes. Also, under an evacuation ORDER are the residents of Schmidt Road and the road called “Off Mullan Road.”
Road blocks will also be set up at Tower and 3rd, Nancy Lou and 3rd and Flamingo and Stone. An emergency shelter is located at Christ the King Church, 1400 Gerald Avenue in Missoula. For more information call 258-INFO (4636). An information booth has also been set up in the parking lot of Wheat Montana or call 258-INFO.
Power has already been shut off at affected residences and anyone who does not evacuate will be without power.
Sheriff’s Captain Anthony Rio described the process of informing residents if immediate evacuations are ordered.
“It’s very much like we use at fire season,” Rio said. “We would come through neighborhoods and alternate our sirens. We would have our deputies drive through neighborhoods, alternating sirens letting people know that it’s right now, and there is imminent danger.”
There will be a public meeting in Seeley Lake at 6:00 p.m. at the Seeley Swan High School.
