Can Wasting Time Online Improve Employee Productivity?
In a study that anyone who works in an office will heartily embrace, researchers found that spending small parts of the day wasting time on the Internet makes workers more productive because it acts to mentally refresh them.
“Browsing the Internet serves an important restorative function,” concludes the report from the National University of Singapore.
But that’s not all. The researchers also found that bosses who check up on their employees cyber-loafing too frequently actually end up pushing workers to get on Facebook or play Civ World more than they would otherwise.
So, if your boss gets down on you for being online while on the clock, you now have two good arguments for why he should back off. However, we can’t guarantee that these are arguments your will boss will accept.
