I know there must be some procedure in place to vet the best people for a cabinet post in our government, but spending the day watching this process borders on root canal pain. Mostly, it’s a speech about how the questioner feels rather than trying to assess the position of the nominee.

Each party's quest is to make the other party look bad.

"Way back when you said this..." "Now you say this..." Which is it?

I keep expecting someone to ask, “Do you still beat your wife?” Yes or no?

And there’s a full week of more of the same. I can hardly wait.

What’s The Real Agenda?

What I see is both parties playing to their base voter. This is nothing more than a campaign event for the next election.

Vote for us and we promise to undo everything this nominee does. Vote for us and we’ll continue on the winning path.

The hearings were not without some light entertainment. A host of demonstrators in various forms of dress were ejected from the festivities.

No wonder the whole world laughs and shakes their heads when they see the idiocy of our procedures and traditions.

Some Final Thoughts

We’ve come a long way in the past 18 months. The country has changed dramatically.

Whether it’s for the good or not is the big question that will be answered, in part, on January 21, 2017.

Will the country come together or will we all drift further apart? As the Chinese say, “May you live in interesting times.” I think I can honestly say — I am.

What are your thoughts?
