Just after noon on Tuesday, August 2, Missoula Police were called to the post office after citizens reported seeing a man drinking while driving.

“An officer responded to a report of a male driving a scooter that was seen drinking a can of beer as he rolled up to a mail outlet,” said Missoula Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh. “He spilled his beer as he parked and then drank the rest before going inside.”

A police officer and a state trooper arrived on scene and identified the man as 64-year-old John Adrian Langstaff.

“Probably cause was developed, the witness had seen him driving while consuming the alcohol based on that and other observable factors through the course of a DUI investigation he was eventually arrested,” Welsh said. “Turns out that he has three or more previous convictions which makes this his fourth or subsequent, which is a felony.”

Langstaff was booked into the Missoula County Jail at around 5:00 p.m. but was released less than two hours later after apparently posting a 10,000 dollar bond.
