For generations, Montana has had a love affair with firearms, and for good reason.  While we certainly have our fair share of cities and progress taking place across the state, much of Montana is still the wild west and you just never know when you're going to encounter something that requires a firearm.

According to Guns & Ammo, Montana is ranked near the top when it comes to The Best States For Gun Owners in fact, the only two states ranked higher are our neighbors Idaho and Wyoming. In fact, Montana is one of a handful of states that allows permitless carry at 18 years old.

It seems that the majority of Montanans are completely ok with this, as information from Insider states that more than half of the state's population owns at least one firearm.

Having said all of that, Father's Day is just around the corner and there's a whole lot of Montana Dad's out there that would love a new gun for the Holiday. Whether it's a handgun, rifle, or shotgun, there are tons of different options when it comes to making sure Dad gets what he wants.

So, let's take a look at The Top 5 Firearms For Montana Dad's This Father's Day

Big Game Rifle

Here in Montana, we are blessed with ample hunting.  From deer to elk to moose, and so on, those who love to hunt dream of living in a place like this.  If Dad is a hunter, he will certainly need a gun that is not only accurate at long range but packs enough punch to bring down an animal that easily weighs several hundred pounds.

.22 Rifle

There's something to be said about a good ole' .22 rifle, in fact, a .22 was one of my first guns as a kid.  They're fantastic for target practice, the ammo is relatively cheap, and they're great for small-game hunting like rabbits and squirrels

Long Barrel Shotgun

Available in different gauges, a long-barrel shotgun is excellent for bird hunting. Ducks, geese, turkeys, and quail are the perfect game for a shotgun, and if hunting isn't Dad's thing, long-barrel shotguns are great for skeet shooting.

Shotgun For Home Defense

Hopefully, Dad will never have to worry about being in a situation where a firearm is needed to protect you and your family, but if he is, he'll want to make sure that he's prepared.  A shorter barrel shotgun is a great home defense weapon and they're much easier to maneuver than the longer barrel shotguns.  Plus, they come in regular pump or semi-automatic versions.

Handgun

A handgun is a must if Dad is looking to conceal and carry.  They come in many different sizes with many different features.  From revolvers to semi-automatics, there are several great handgun manufacturers with a wide range of different sizes and calibers. Plus, a handgun is a great firearm to have when hiking, or camping and you come across some sort of nasty little critter that is between you and safety.
