I'm on a mission.

I was born and raised in the south and a breakfast staple was good ole' fashioned biscuits and gravy. Heck, sometimes us country folk would even have that for dinner. Here's the problem, when I make biscuits and gravy at home, it never turns out the way I want it.

One of the issues is I have no idea how to actually make biscuits, other than that whole "pop open the can" method. I mean, they're ok, but I'm looking for the real deal. Plus, biscuits and gravy are the standard that I use to judge every restaurant that I go to as far as breakfast food goes.

If a restaurant can master biscuits and gravy, I'm sold. So where does one find the best biscuits and gravy in Bozeman? Let's talk about that, shall we?  I've been making a list.

First up, the Western Cafe. Who doesn't love the Western Cafe? Seriously? It's totally old-school Montana and the food is exactly what you want it to be. This is what you think of when you think of biscuits and gravy. Hearty, stick to your ribs, great food.

Second, the Cateye Cafe. If the Western is old-school Montana, then the Cateye is totally Bozeman.  It's fun and eclectic and delicious. The Cateye offers up a fantastic plate of homemade buttermilk biscuits along with made from scratch gravy and it tastes like a dream.

Third, Feed Cafe.  One of the things that I love about Feed is that they take normal recipes and dishes that we all love, and then they do their own thing.  The Feed Cafe does biscuits and gravy like no other.  First, they use white cheddar scallion biscuits and then top it off with chorizo gravy.  They certainly aren't Grandma's biscuits and gravy, but they are delicious.

Finally, a personal favorite of mine is The Club Tavern and Grill. They offer up a couple of versions and both are amazing.  There is the traditional version, plus they have the chicken fried steak version.  You heard me right, biscuits, topped with chicken fried steak, topped with gravy.  Perfection!
