Senator Jon Tester today issued the following statement after the Senate passed the USA Freedom Act in a 67 – 32 vote:

“I’m pleased Congress took significant steps to end some of the worst abuses carried out under the Patriot Act.  Protecting our country from threats must not come at the expense of our privacy, and the USA Freedom Act takes steps to provide that responsible balance.  Moving forward, I will continue to protect our civil liberties while working to keep our nation secure.”

Senator Steve Daines comments:

“I look forward to seeing this bipartisan legislation quickly signed into law by the President. The USA Freedom Act takes the long overdue step to end the NSA’s bulk collection of Americans’ phone records and secures important reforms to protect Americans’ Fourth Amendment rights. Today’s vote is a win for our civil liberties and our constitutional rights.”

The USA Freedom Act now heads to the President’s desk for signature.
