USA Today is reporting that Smith's Food and Drug will no longer accept Visa credit cards at stores in seven states, including Montana.

Supermarket giant Kroger, Smith's parent company, will put the ban in place on April 3.

The reason for the Visa credit card ban is due to the swipe fees, which can range between 1 to 3 percent. Bloomberg reports that these fees add up to $90 billion annually for retailers.

Smith's in Bozeman will be still be accepting Visa debit cards.
