Seasons are changing in Montana, and before long much of the state's landscape will be covered in snow. Montana has a very short window when it comes to fall. If you want to take advantage of Montana's beautiful fall colors, you don't have much time.

Fortunately, you don't have to drive far from Bozeman if you want to witness the seasons changing in Montana. One of the most scenic drives in the state is right in our backyard.

The drive through the Gallatin River Canyon via Highway 191 is absolutely breathtaking in the fall. As you follow the Gallatin River, you're guaranteed to see many vibrant colors. Aspen leaves turning bright yellow, bushes turning shades of red and orange, and other examples of the seasons changing.

You might even be lucky enough to encounter some wildlife along the way. Bears, deer, elk, moose, and bighorn sheep are known to frequent the canyon.

If you want to make it a day trip, take a right on Highway 287 at Hebgen Lake and drive back through Ennis, Montana. The area south of Ennis is known for large herds of elk and other wildlife. You can also stop for lunch in Ennis. There are a few dining options in town.
