Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation Reaches $1 Billion Milestone In Conservation Efforts [YouTube]
The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation recently passed an historic milestone, $1 billion in cumulative value for conservation efforts.
Spokesman Mark Holyoak said the one billion dollar mark is a combination of a number of factors.
"It's a combination of the worth of our land projects, the funds that are raised by our volunteers, our members, our sponsors and all sorts of folks over the last 31 years," Holyoak said. "I went online and googled how much was a billion, and saw that a billion dollar bills end to end would circle the earth four times. Then, when I looked at time, it said a billion seconds equals 31.886 years. What's really ironic about that is that we were founded in mid-May of 1984, which was 31 and a half years ago. So, if you apply a little math, that equates roughly one dollar of value for every second of our existence."
The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation boasts over 205,000 members in more than 500 chapters, along with over 11,000 volunteers. The world headquarters and visitor's center is located in Missoula on Grant Creek Road.
