Montana Head Football Coach Bobby Hauck on Signing Day 2018
Having been hired just a few months ago, head football coach Bobby Hauck of the Montana Grizzlies hit the ground running as he prepared for national signing day on Wednesday, February 7.
At a press conference in the Canyon Club, Hauck took questions from the media on his new crop of recruits, his first at Montana since 2009.
One of those recruits was Hauck’s own son Robby, who had been playing for Jerome Sauers at Northern Arizona University, but has now officially transferred to the University of Montana, and is listed as a safety.
“When we ended up taking the job, there was no way he was going to stay at NAU,” Hauck said. “He grew up in this stadium, he’s fourth generation alum at this place and there was no way he could stay down there. He loved the coaches and the school, but he bleeds maroon and silver. I’m excited for him, my dad and grandfather would have been excited, and my brother (Tim Hauck) is ecstatic. We’re at the Super Bowl and he wants to talk to Robby about how it’s going. I asked him, don’t you have a game to coach?”
Hauck said there was only one instance where having his son play might be difficult.
“The first time his mother comes in and wants to talk about playing time, we’re going to have a problem.”
There are 26 players who have committed to play for the Grizzlies, 13 are from Montana, including Missoula products Nick Germer, Levi Ganacaro, and David Koppang.
The Grizzlies open the season at home on September 1 as they host The University of Northern Iowa.
