Montana Governor Issues Disaster Declaration for Powder River County
Governor Steve Bullock made a disaster declaration today, but it wasn’t for the lack of rainfall in western Montana, it was for too much rainfall in Powder River County.
"The governor, at the request of the Powder River County commissioners, declared a state disaster after the storms that occurred there in May through mid-June," Governor Spokesman Dave Parker said. "Heavy rain caused the rivers to rise and did a lot of structural damage."
Parker said the declaration will help Powder River County recover.
"The declaration authorizes the expenditure of funds to assist in the communities recovering and that can't happen without the disaster declaration," Parker said.
Montana officials estimate that the storms in Powder River Canyon caused over $223,700 in damages.
