An unidentified man was attacked by a sow grizzly bear behind the Salish Kootenai College in Pablo just before 11 a.m. Friday, April 19.

"The man sustained head and arm injuries and was initially transported to St. Luke's Hospital in Pablo, but then was transferred to Kalispell Regional Medical Center," Lake County Sheriff's Department Public Information Officer Karen Sargent on Friday morning.

"Tribal fish and game rangers, Lake County sheriff's deputies, tribal law enforcement officers, and Salish-Kootenai College security officials are currently informing residents, students and staff at local schools, and workers in the area of the attack, and are advising them to stay indoors at this time," Sargent added.

"The bear was reported as a sow grizzly with two cubs. The search for the bear is ongoing at this time, and more information will be released as it becomes available," Sargent said.
