Kroger Begins Plastic Bag Ban, Bozeman Smith’s to Follow

In August, the nation's largest grocery chain, Kroger, which operates 2,779 stores in America, announced it will phase out single-use plastic bags and transition to reusable bags by 2025. The measure is part of Kroger’s Zero Hunger | Zero Waste social impact plan.

According to CBS News, Kroger said Thursday that it will start the project at its Seattle chain QFC, where it expects to be plastic-bag free by next year.

We spoke with a representative at Smith's in Bozeman, and they told us that it is uncertain when Kroger's Bozeman stores, which include Smith's Food and Drug and Loaf 'N Jug, will phase out single-use plastic bags.

They noted that the Smith's Food and Drug location in Jackson Hole, Wyoming had already stopped using single-use plastic bags due to a law that went into effect in April.
