ICYMI: Senator Tester Flip-Flopped on Laken Riley Act

I've had a busy few days on the road with events in Belgrade, Bozeman, Big Timber, and then wrapping up at the Fusion Fights in Billings Saturday night.

Unless you're following me on X, you may have missed this story: Democrat Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) flip-flopped on the Laken Riley Act. Tester must not like what he is seeing in his internal polling against Navy SEAL veteran Tim Sheehy (R-MT).

Back in late March, prominent Trump border policy advisor Stephen Miller hammered Tester for voting to continue flying illegal aliens on secret flights all across the US, for voting against the Laken Riley Act, and for voting in support of men invading women and girls sports.

Late last week, Tester flip-flopped and now says he will support the Laken Riley Act. For those who don't know, Laken Riley is the young Georgia college student who was murdered by an illegal alien.

On May 9th, the NRSC's Mike Berg made the point that this is "not the headline Tester was looking for." Here's the headline from The Hill: "Tester becomes first Democrat to co-sponsor Laken Riley Act after voting against it as amendment" 

According to Fox News, "The legislation would require Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to detain illegal immigrants who have committed theft, burglary, larceny, or shoplifting offenses."

In the same Fox News story referenced above, Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR), a fellow combat veteran, said this about Tester via X: "Sen. Tester voted for the open-border policies that let Riley’s killer in. He voted against this very bill a few weeks ago. Montanans who want secure borders—and not a phony election-year conversion—should support [GOP Senate candidate Tim Sheehy]."
