When it comes to laws in Montana, sometimes they are wild, and this one is no different.

Don't be surprised if you see teenagers or young kids riding ATVs because Montana's laws regarding these vehicles are pretty trusting.
According to Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks, you can ride ATVs as young as 12. If under 16 years old, they will have to complete certification through the company, but they can drive ATVs as long as they follow the law.
This law includes all Off-Highway Vehicles. That means you could see young teens driving side-by-side vehicles, dune buggies, motorcycles, and more.
Why so young? Well, most folks that head into the backcountry with these vehicles are all about safety, and whoever is with them follows these rules while in their company. Plus, many of these vehicles are safe and easy to use for young people.
This law doesn't include off-road vehicles like snowmobiles, boats, and others.
