Cold weather has finally arrived in Montana, and residents across the state have been starting to prepare for winter.

Winter doesn't officially start until December 21, but judging by all of the snow on the ground, it isn't waiting until then. The snow may be beautiful, but it also means that it's time to turn on your furnace or stock up on firewood.

When battling the bitter cold temperatures during the winter in Montana, it's nice to escape the cold inside your home, where it's cozy and warm. We asked residents to tell us about the ideal temperature for their homes during the winter.

Out of 118 people surveyed, 63.5% said that they keep their homes between 65-70 degrees during the winter. I generally keep my thermostat set at 67 degrees when I'm home, and around 60 degrees when I'm at work to save money.

Roughly 19% of Montana residents keep their homes between 70-75 degrees, and less than 1% keep their homes warmer than that.

Many people in Montana use a wood stove to heat their homes. The best thing about that is, you can get warm twice. Once from chopping the wood, and the other from stoking up the fire in your home. I lived in a home with a wood stove once, and I miss it every winter when I think about it.
