The Only Yellowstone Campground Open All Winter Long
Are you a hardcore camper who refuses to pack it in when winter hits? If that sounds like you, here is a Yellowstone fact that surprises a lot of people. Even in the dead of winter, when most park roads are closed unless you are on a snow coach or skis, there is still one campground that stays open all year long.
Mammoth Campground is the only year round campground inside Yellowstone National Park. It sits near the North Entrance, just five miles from Gardiner, Montana. Thanks to its lower elevation and convenient location, it remains accessible even during Yellowstone’s harsh winters.

During the summer season, campsites can be reserved online HERE. Once winter sets in, the campground switches to first come, first served. Each site includes a picnic table and a fire pit with a grate. Campers also have access to toilets and water pumps that provide potable water, which is a big perk compared to many winter camping options.
RV campers should plan ahead. While Mammoth can handle large rigs during the warmer months, winter camping limits total vehicle length to 30 feet. There are no hookups and no dump stations. Generators are allowed, but only between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Tent campers should be prepared for snow, as tent pads are not always cleared. So pack that shovel!
