If you are a hunter, and especially an elk hunter, you know it is not just a hobby. It runs deeper than that. The minute season wraps up, the countdown starts again. You are glassing hillsides in the spring, hiking to stay in shape through summer, and double checking gear long before opening morning arrives.
Here in Montana, we are fortunate to have some of the finest elk country anywhere. It makes sense that the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation calls this place home. Based in Missoula, they are planning something big for 2026.

From July 16 through 19, RMEF will host the first ever Big Game Days. Think four days centered around conservation, new gear, hands-on demos, and the lifestyle that keeps hunters coming back year after year.
Here is a look at some of what is planned:
RMEF at Full Draw at Snowbowl. A mountain archery challenge built with Total Archery Challenge, complete with demanding courses, a 35 target practice range, vendors, food, and prize raffles.
World Elk Calling Championships at the Wilma Theatre. Three days of top callers competing live, judged on realism and skill from soft cow sounds to screaming bugles.
RMEF Range Day at Deer Creek Shooting Center. Here you can test new firearms, optics, ammunition, and connect directly with industry reps.
If elk hunting is part of who you are, this is one event worth circling on the calendar. Also, I noticed that the RMEF is running an epic sweepstakes right now. If you want a chance to win a trip to Nashville valued at $23,460.00, you can support conservation and enter the “Music City Rodeo Sweepstakes.”
