Montana has long been a hunter's paradise, with locals and out-of-staters hoping to harvest bison, deer, elk, moose, and other kinds of wildlife.

The folks over at Stacker decided to research the country and find out which states have the most hunters and it shouldn't come as a big surprise that our region leads the nation.

Where does Montana rank when it comes to states with the most hunters?

Montana comes in 3rd with just over 20 percent of the population registered as licensed hunters. So, what other states made the Top 5? It just so happens the remaining 4 are all "neighbors".

Wyoming leads the nation with almost a quarter of its population registered to hunt, followed by South Dakota with over 22 percent. North Dakota comes in fourth with 19 percent and Idaho rounds out the Top 5 with over 15 percent of the population registered.

While there are seasons for certain animals, Montana does allow for hunting all year round on specific species such as rabbits, foxes, badgers, and squirrels.
