Everyone knows that Montanans love Montana.  State pride is a big deal here in Big Sky Country, and why wouldn't it be?  There are very few places in the world that compare to the beauty of Montana.

But are there certain things that Montanans don't like about the place they call home?

We decided that we would ask Montanans themselves, so we posted the question, and the responses were numerous. Turns out, there's a lot that Montanans have issues with when it comes to living in Montana.

Let's take a look at The Top 5 Things Montanans Hate About Living In Montana.

Winter

By far the number one answer was winter.  From the length of the season to the amount of snow, and the low temperatures, it can certainly be a lot to take. Throw in the fact that Montana has less-than-ideal driving conditions during the winter months, and a whole lot of Montanans are fed up.

Construction

The old joke here in Montana is that we have two seasons.  Winter and Road Construction. Part of the frustration is that we're limited to just a few months of nice weather, and during that time, you have to deal with all of the construction that's taking place. Throw in the fact that you have a high rate of traffic from all of the tourists visiting, and it can be very frustrating, very fast.

High Cost Of Living

If you're reading this and thinking about moving to Montana, you should know that it's expensive.  Housing and rent prices are at an all-time high, and to be honest, more than a lot of locals can afford.  Several Montanans are working multiple jobs just to make ends meet. Added to that is the high price of food, fuel, and all of the other things needed to get by.

Californians

Just saying the word will get a strong reaction from many Montanans.  Lots of locals blame the California transplants for the high cost of living here in the state. It should also be mentioned that many feel that the folks moving here from California don't have the same values or beliefs that many Montanans have.

Change

Change is never an easy thing, especially when you consider the change for the worse and not the better. As people continue to move to Montana, in many communities the old ways are being replaced by new ways and for many locals, that is too much to take. Several long for the way things used to be.  The friendly people, the Mom and Pop stores, and all of the traditions that have made Montana the Last Best Place.
