We've all heard of the cyber attacks that have taken place on different financial institutions and retail websites over the last few years and there certainly is no shortage of different software companies that offer different types of security coverage to keep you safe while online.

Well, the Federal Government seems to think so and is warning Montanans.

Let's be honest, we carry a lot of things in our wallets and purses. Our driver's license, credit cards, cash, and other personal items. However, one item that the Feds are saying you shouldn't carry in your personal belongings could give a would-be criminal the possibility to wreak havoc on your life and your credit.

Before we reveal the answer, let's look at some of the more popular scams around Montana.

What is the one item Montanans shouldn't carry in their wallets?

The Social Security Department is warning Montanans to never carry their social security cards on them, in fact, they say you should keep the card in a safe and secure place at all times.

Why?

A couple of reasons.  First, if a criminal was to get a hold of your social security card they could possibly open credit cards and take out loans in your name.  Second, while they are replaceable, it's a hassle that most of us simply don't want to deal with.

Not to mention that certain times of the year tend to see more criminal activity. The Holidays anyone?

The bottom line, it is better to be safe than sorry, so if you are one of those Montanans that carry their social security card on you, you might want to reconsider that and put it somewhere that you don't have to worry about it being stolen.
