A report from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, or the CDC, announced that natives of Montanans can expect to live shorter lives.

This contrasts with the long-standing national trend of increasing life expectancies.

The latest statistics indicate a shift in the wrong direction, indicating an average life expectancy in Montana of 76.8 years, below the national average of 78.8 years.

Based on 2020 data, this decline marks a measurable drop in Montanans' life expectancy.

For instance, the average life expectancy of a Montananan in 2018 was 78.8 years old.

In 2019, that number was 78.4 years old.

The CDC determines these figures by analyzing Medicare data, overall mortality rates, and fundamental U.S. Census data.

The CDC attributes this decline in life expectancy to various factors, notably the significant impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on a national level.

While here at home, heart disease remains the leading cause of death in Montana, followed by cancer.

COVID-19 in Montana holds a fairly insignificant position.

Though the immediate effects of COVID-19 seem to have lessened for many Montanans, concerns persist due to emerging variants, prompting worries about both short-term and long-term repercussions.
