Just how friendly are Montanans?

Well, that would depend on who you ask. I think if you would ask Montanans, they would tell you that they're very friendly, however, that's not what some folks have been saying recently. In fact, there is a group of people that believe Montana might be one of the most unfriendly places around.

It all started with a post on social media; a gentleman moved here with his family for a job and was quite surprised by the unfriendliness of the locals. It seems that he wasn't the only one; in fact, there were several non-Montanas that said the same thing.

Most folks just claimed rudeness, however one lady claimed that she and her husband moved here and were targeted because they came from California. Check out what she said happened to them:

My husband and I are also from Northern California (sadly) as well and have ran into the not so welcome few. Be it things thrown at our vehicles, people threatening us, telling us to get the F out of here and go back to where we came from, landlords who refuse to rent to us because of where we are from… But we moved out here for a job offer that my husband received

I was certainly shocked to read this. As someone that is not a native of Montana, there was a little bit of fuss when I first moved here, but that was mostly online and from people I wouldn't want to be friends with in the first place. My experience has been mostly positive, and the folks here are almost always friendly in person.

What about you, though? If you've moved here from another state has your experience been like mine, or more like the folks above? Have you found some of the locals to be rude, or downright mean? If so, what happened?

If you're thinking of moving here from another state, here's my suggestion: get your plates changed as soon as possible, cheer for the local teams, and be part of the community. If someone asks you where you are from, be honest, but Montanans are proud of Montana and don't necessarily want to hear how great it was where you came from.

Also, respect the Montana way of life. Remember, you moved here, not the other way around. If you can come here and do all of those things, there might be a little hazing, but sooner than later you'll fit right in.
