Hundreds of people gathered at the Indiana State Fairgrounds on Monday to honor the victims of this weekend’s deadly stage collapse. The half-hour memorial service was also attended by Gov. Mitch Daniels, Indiana first lady Cheri Daniels, Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman and several state fair officials.

Lt. Gov. Skillman led the ceremony’s prayer service, and expressed her gratitude to the first responders who “set aside their personal concerns and moved toward the accident and not away” to help those in need. After the remarks ended, the names of the five people who died in Saturday’s accident were read aloud.

Nearly four dozen others were also injured when strong gusts of wind caused the stage rigging above the Grandstand to collapse. The accident occurred shortly before the country music duo Sugarland was expected to take the stage.
