I would hate for the title of this blog to mislead anyone so to clear things up let’s talk about time management. Both Personal and Business.

Let’s face facts, human beings are pretty bad at using their time efficiently and productively. We act on impulse and fail to prioritize our minutes, hours and day.

Light And Dark In Business

If you are a contractor you should not be doing proposals or bids when the sun is shining.

That time should be reserved for finding new jobs, supervising and dealing with current ones, and dealing with suppliers and other’s who work when it’s light.

You do proposals, bids, and balance your checkbook and other work when it’s dark.

I’m not talking about working twelve-hour days every day. But there are days you will be much more productive prioritizing jobs during your day to work smarter not harder.

Light And Dark In Your Personal Life

You have a workday routine. Get up, breakfast, kids off to school, etc. Go to work, lunch, back home, dinner, lots of TV, then bed. Pretty average huh?

I don’t see time with the kids, exercise, or any other things that make life worth living.

Trust me, a night without Duck Dynasty or The Walking Dead won’t kill you.

Get up earlier, take a walk or run, it’s a pain in the beginning but you will be very happy you did it when you’re done.

Spend time to get to know your family again. The last thing your kids will want to do is talk about their day because as parents you are completely out of touch with their reality.

They want to get to their computer games worse than you want to get to Swamp People. But set aside some family time. They hate it now but will remember it in the future.

Some Final Thoughts

Time is the one thing we all have in limited supply and the one thing we take most for granted. You blink your eye and the kids are grown.

Or the business has grown more than you thought possible.

Life is lot like a movie. It has a beginning, middle, and an end. Which part do you want to be longest?

How you use your time will dictate how that movie plays out. How you live your life can make it a long movie or short subject.

Take the time. You’ll be glad you did.
