Butte Police Find Woman in Car Slumped Over Dead Infant
BUTTE, Mont. (AP) — Police in Butte found a woman slumped over in her car, covering the body of her 5-month-old daughter, who was dead.
The Montana Standard reports the 30-year-old woman was taken to the hospital, her 2-year-old son was placed with child protective services and the infant's body was taken to the state crime lab for an autopsy.
Sheriff Ed Lester says officers were unable to awaken the woman Wednesday morning after spotting her car, parked but still running, about a half block from the police station.
Officers broke the window after seeing the baby. Officers and paramedics were unable to resuscitate the girl. The woman's son was uninjured in the back seat of the car.
Lester says officers were questioning the woman at the hospital.
