Democratic incumbent Jon Tester was a very popular man at this week's Republican Senatorial debate. The four candidates who are seeking the Republican nomination for Montana's Senate election all had something to say about Tester. The candidates
Businessman Troy Downing, former District Judge Russell Fagg, state Sen. Al Olszewski and State Auditor Matt Rosendale  told the crowd they were "real" conservatives. Sort of each trying to out conservative each other.

They weren't asked about Tester by the moderators. The candidates waited to go after the incumbent until the end of the debate. Each explained why they would be the best man to take down the well-fed senator.

Tester, they said, represents Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, and not the people of Montana.

Tester's campaign did not comment on the debate. The Democratic party said in a statement about the debate that the entire GOP field would be bad for public lands, veterans, America and Montana.
