Best Houseplants for Montana? Find Out at the Belgrade Plant Swap
What a fantastic idea...a plant swap in Belgrade where you can bring your plants, cuttings, knowledge, etc. and end up adopting new houseplants from others in the area. It's practical, fun, social, and about as wholesome as it gets.
I'm oddly excited about this event and that's because I know LOTS of people in the area who have extraordinary collections of houseplants. If I can get some of them to show up with some of their cuttings, we'll all walk away winners.
It can be difficult to find the right houseplants for our area. You've probably noticed that grocery stores and plant stores alike are either slim pickings or fairly expensive. Transporting indoor plants in our climate is challenging so the cost to stock them is higher.
- WHAT: Adopt-a-Houseplant Plant Swap
- WHEN: Thursday, September 22nd, 2022
- TIME: 5:30pm to 6:30pm
- WHERE: Belgrade Community Library (106 North Broadway, Belgrade)
- Invite your plant loving friends and share that Facebook Event page :-)
The event day is also the first day of Fall...what a great way to kick off a new season. As we're putting our gardens to bed for the year, this will be a great chance to swap something green for the inside of your home. There are some very knowledgeable folks in the valley when it comes to just about anything gardening and plant related.
Tea will be served during the Plant Swap so we can chat a bit about our newly acquired houseplants. It's not just about the plants but also the guidance and advice we can offer each other. How often did you water it? How much light does it prefer?
If you have houseplants that you no longer want but are healthy, bring them to the swap! Someone else will probably be more than happy to take it off your hands and give it a new home. Give that new person tips, tricks, advice, whatever to help ensure your gift thrives in a new place.
Do you have cuttings to offer? THESE are what I'm most excited about. If you have a rather 'prolific' houseplant that could use a trim and can sprout roots in a jar of water or cup of dirt...get on that now. You're going to be the most popular person at the Plant Swap.
If you don't currently have any houseplants to swap, that's OK. Come and see what kind of cuttings people have to offer. You'll be able to go home with a couple of new babies and perhaps make a new friend in the process.
If you have concerns about showing up empty handed, bring any extra, well-stored seeds you might have from the gardening season. (That's my plan :-) I figure if I don't have a houseplant to offer up to someone else, the least I can do is show up with something they might be able to use. Just my two cents.
