34 year-old Winston Ritter appeared in Missoula Justice Court on Tuesday, charged with three felonies, assault with a weapon, assault on a peace officer and burglary.

Deputy Missoula County Attorney Brittany Santorno asked substitute Justice of the Peace Colin Stephens for $75,000 bond.

"It's alleged that this defendant broke into a trailer, stole an AR-15 and pointed it at Deputy Wafstet and another bystander," Santorno said. "The defendant then fled from police before handcuffing himself and surrendering. The defendant committed this new offense just one day posting bond on another assault with a weapon case that is currently pending in district court."

Santorno outlined Ritter's criminal record for the judge.

"He has two prior convictions on his record for assaults on a female," she continued. "He also has convictions for theft, false reports and harassment. The defendant is clearly violent and poses a great danger to the community, and that is the reason we are requesting a high bail amount."

Judge Stephens agreed and set bail at $75,000. Ritter was returned to jail and will make another appearance on July 19.

No one was injured in the incident.
