Surprising Study Reveals Successful Women Fear Becoming Bag Ladies
Financial security is a goal a lot of women have accomplished, but many still think they're head for the poorhouse.
A new poll has found that 49% of women fear they’ll become a bag lady. This news comes despite the fact 60% say they are the breadwinner in their home and 27% earn more than $200,000 annually.
About 2,200 women earning at least $30,000 a year between the ages of 25 and 75 took part in the study.
Here’s a breakdown of who is afraid they’ll wind up completely broke:
- 54% of divorcees
- 47% of widows
- 43% of married women
It seems to be a double edge sword, too, because while poverty is a real concern, so is prosperity. Forty-two percent of respondents think women who stand on their own financially intimidate men and end up alone, while 31% say women who are financially independent have trouble relating to other women and don’t have a lot of friends.
